Now those of you who know me will be familiar with my sweet tooth… so seeing Larry & Sophie from Epoch swing through the studio doors with boxes and boxes of fresh, Krispy Kreme doughnuts is always a Treat.

The Gloster 2011 trip was a bit of an epic..once again Jim Johnson was there to document the two weeks of Californian madness.

Harveys Statement Shoot

So there I was, sat at my desk reading a Harveys brief from the team at HMDG… did it really say
‘can you find a derelict country mansion, a cutting edge fashion stylist & oh…we’ll need a horse…
Not the usual Harveys brief then & putting all the elements in place wasn’t going to be easy, every part had to be perfect,
the location, the stylist, the model, the make up artist… & of course the horse.
As soon as I walked into the magnificently crumbling dining room of Hammerwood Hall I knew we had our location, it fitted the brief perfectly.

David the homeowner was terrifically enthusiastic when we ran through our plans & wasn’t at all fazed when we proposed bringing a horse inside.
Now I’ve done my fair share of photographing animals, but a horse?… inside a house?.. this is going to be interesting.
In the end Ben behaved perfectly, as the gallery of onlookers held their breath he was led through the door & took up his position, he posed perfectly for the camera & we got the shot.
Under the creative leadership of Martin Smith & the organizational skills of producer Liam Bergin the rest of the shoot ran like clockwork.. largely thanks to everyone being totally committed to the project. Our Stylist Jenny produced some amazing looks for our gorgeous model Sophia,

Sam Landesberg’s make up was perfect, Alex Shore’s lighting skills came in rather handy as well.
While we were wrapping up on the last day Martin asked me which of the 8 set up’s we photographed was my favourite & I really had to think about it, hand on heart, every shot had exceeded my expectations, we’d met & executed the brief perfectly.

Back in 2010 Gloster asked us to provide some video footage of their product & our man Jim Johnston stepped up.. this is a collection of behind the scenes bits from that trip.

Every morning as we set off for the days shooting this tune would be on the radio

It’s ” The High Road” by Broken Bells & it was the sound track to a wonderful 2 weeks.

Goldstein House

So this is my blog.. Not quite sure what’s going to happen here, a bit of work, a bit of personal stuff. Let’s just see.

Every time I work on an interesting project I think ‘that’ll make a good blog post’ & I ask my willing assistant to grab some behind the scenes shots, which get dumped on a hard drive never to see the light of day..

However.. When a recent trip to the States took us to this truly amazing house I knew I couldn’t let the opportunity pass,
I’m lucky enough to have a very lovely client who fly us around the world to photograph their splendid furniture in luxurious locations & back in August last year myself, my faithful assistant Alex video guru Jim & stylist Mano headed out to Los Angeles with a two week shoot in front of us.

Over the years I’ve become more & more involved in the pre-production of these jobs, I’m not a control freak, I just like learning new stuff & getting my head around the LA permitting/insurance bureaucracy has, at times driven me around the bend, but I get it now & things are a lot easier.
One of the most important parts of the pre-production is finding the right locations, the brief from the client is always pretty specific & this year was no exception,
Now, LA has it’s fair share of amazing houses so there are dozens of online libraries just bursting with palatial cribs, I’ve often come across the Goldstein house during my searches & thought how great it would be to shoot there but it’s just never fitted the brief…but this time it did.

The property was conceived by Architect John Lautner & when Goldstein acquired the building in 1972 he commissioned Lautner to re-model the house which had fallen into dis repair,
It’s an incredible place to shoot, the walls are dripping with photographs featuring Goldstein hanging out with super models & filmstars, the architecture is breathtaking..like nothing I’ve seen before.
